The California State University, Chico Department of Music and Theatre is searching for a tenure track assistant professor to start in August 20, 2019 in the field of Music Industry, with possible additional responsibilities in the field of Recording Arts. The department is seeking a colleague with knowledge/experience in global music industries, business innovation, entrepreneurship, management, marketing, product development, tours and festivals, and arts and social justice. This colleague should be competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Minimum Education and Experience:

An M.A. or substantial experience in the field will be considered. The candidate should have demonstrated excellence or potential excellence in teaching and in scholarship or creative activity in the field. Candidates should have expert knowledge of the structure and evolution of the music industry. Evidence of activity in national and international professional associations related to the field of music industry is required. Candidates should have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and social justice as evidenced in their work experience and record of teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position:

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, curriculum development, recruitment, mentoring and administration of the Music Industry program at the undergraduate level and other courses (with a focus on recording arts) related to the candidate’s expertise which serve departmental needs. Teaching load is four courses per semester. Advising and supervision and/or development of student internships may be part of the teaching load. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

Recruitment Preferences:

Preferred education for appointment to this position is an earned Ph.D., D.M.A., or J.D. Candidates nearing the completion of the terminal degree will be given preferred consideration. Candidates with teaching experience in higher education will be given preferred consideration. Candidates with practical experience in musical performance, studio instruction, and/or musical theatre will be given preferred consideration. Candidates currently working in the field of music industry or related field (including the field of recording arts) with knowledge of present practices and developments in the field will be given preferred consideration.
