Drexel University’s top-ranked Music Industry Program is seeking a dynamic, accomplished and passionate music industry expert to join our team as an Assistant Teaching Professor. The ideal candidate will bring with them meaningful and in-depth expertise derived from their experience at an entertainment law firm, publishing company, record label, academic institution or management company. The position affords the right individual an exciting opportunity to contribute their background to teach and mentor highly-motivated students, to serve the community and to work with colleagues who are well-respected members of the music industry. 

 

A successful Assistant Teaching Professor will have prior teaching experience in at the college or university level and significant, current experience in the evolving global music industry. They will bring in-depth expertise related to the music business and will be expected to fulfill a teaching load of 24-27 credits spread over fall, winter and spring quarters, and consisting of classroom teaching. 

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrable depth, breadth and working knowledge of the current global music industry 
  • 5+ years of music industry experience 
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level  
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
     

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master’s Degree in a related discipline 

Teaching and Mentoring:  

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Music Business not limited to legal, publishing, management and marketing. 
  • Teach other undergraduate courses based on individual skillset and industry expertise 
  • Mentor and advise Music Industry students including supervision of student internships and co-ops 
  • Participate in program and curriculum assessment and development 
  • Other teaching and mentoring duties as assigned 

 

Service to the University:  

  • Review student applicants as assigned 
  • Develop and maintain industry relationships supporting curriculum, student co-ops, and creative collaborations with the university’s Music Industry Program 
  • Assist in the program’s administration including student recruitment, curriculum development and revisions, course evaluation, and raising awareness of the program’s activities  
  • Serve on committees for the college and university 
  • Maintain involvement in appropriate professional organizations
