Hit songs have memorable lyrics, and fans can usually recite every word by heart.
Now, McDonald’s and Yahoo Music are joining forces on a user-generated lyrical play, one focused on urban artist and songwriter Ne-Yo. According to information received by Digital Music News on Monday, the action will revolve around a new Yahoo Music property called Lyricmakers (music.yahoo.com/lyricmakers). Through that service, fans will soon be able to upload their lyrical concepts, and Yahoo Music visitors will vote for the winner.
Yahoo Music will solicit lyrics that revolve around one of four themes – love, peace, dreams and party. Ne-Yo will generate the beats for the selected lyrics, and the full-song download will be available exclusively on Yahoo Music. According to Yahoo, submissions will begin August 20th, and the final song will be delivered in October.
The concept is not the first collaboration between the companies. For Yahoo Music, the initiative builds upon an existing sponsorship with McDonald’s, one currently in motion. Interestingly, Ne-Yo recently performed at a McDonald’s summer concert in Venice Beach, California, part of a larger ten-city tour sponsored in part by Yahoo Muisc. The tour is currently traversing the United States.
