Universal Music chief Doug Morris is not double-dipping on Imeem after all, according to information shared with Digital Music News on Monday.
Over the weekend, Imeem disclosed its licensing deal with Universal Music Group, the fourth and final major label tie-up for the company. But according to a top source within Imeem, Wall Street Journal reporter Ethan Smith incorrectly reported that Universal and Doug Morris negotiated a per-play royalty on top of an ad-based revenue share. “It’s the greater of the two streams, not both combined,” the executive clarified. Digital Music News was unable to determine if other label deals follow similar structures, and the source could not disclose information on other contracts.
