RealNetworks Cuts 100, Sheds “Redundancies”

The holiday season has been less-than-merry for a number of music industry staffers and executives, particularly those within major labels.

But outside of the recording industry, other pre-Christmas cuts are happening.  On Monday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer confirmed a reduction of 100 at RealNetworks, a move designed to shed “redundancies,” according to a spokesperson.  The representative noted that RealNetworks had been accumulating overlapping personnel after a number of acquisitions.  About 35 of the affected employees came from Seattle, and the rest worked in Europe and Asia.  The company had roughly 1,800 employees prior to the reduction.
