The holiday season has been less-than-merry for a number of music industry staffers and executives, particularly those within major labels.
But outside of the recording industry, other pre-Christmas cuts are happening. On Monday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer confirmed a reduction of 100 at RealNetworks, a move designed to shed “redundancies,” according to a spokesperson. The representative noted that RealNetworks had been accumulating overlapping personnel after a number of acquisitions. About 35 of the affected employees came from Seattle, and the rest worked in Europe and Asia. The company had roughly 1,800 employees prior to the reduction.
