Digital Staffing Gets Serious; EMI Recruits Google CIO

Major labels are quickly shifting their staffing priorities towards digital expertise, and EMI is no exception.

The struggling label group has now hired Douglas Merrill, currently Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Engineering at Google, according to information confirmed early this morning.  Merrill will assume stripes as President of Digital at the label starting April 28th.

Merrill probably represents a high-priced acquisition, one that contrasts with the broader employment picture at EMI.  The label has already dumped thousands of its employees, part of a painful downsizing by incoming owner Terra Firma.
