What started with a plastic guitar has evolved into a communal experience.
Guitar Hero is now spreading beyond the axe, and giving gamers the royal, Rock Band treatment. The broadened Guitar Hero: World Tour, in stores this week, includes the core guitar as well as a drum kit and microphone. “Guitar Hero: World Tour is the most complete music game to date,” publisher Activision declared.
Indeed, this is a game stuffed with enhancements, bells, whistles, and lots of plastic toys. World Tour also offers 86 songs on disc from superstars like The Eagles, Van Halen, Metallica, Michael Jackson and The Doors, as well as in-game appearances by artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Corgan and Travis Barker.
Just like Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, World Tour allows gamers to battle online. But the expanded action pits groups of four against one another in a “Battle of the Bands” mode. Offline, single players or groups can progress through various venues. World Tour is available for the Xbox, PS3, and Wii.
