The Beatles sold 626,000 first-week copies of their remastered albums, a number that also includes box sets.
According to the US-based tally by Nielsen Soundscan, the remastered Abbey Road led the pack with 89,000 units. That was followed by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, which shifted 74,000. Each box set – both mono and stereo versions – were counted as one in the tally.
That figure beats earlier estimates, which pegged the collective total at just past 500,000. Perhaps more impressive is that the sales volumes were reached within a truncated, 4-day period, instead of a full week.
Elsewhere, Jay-Z sold 476,000 units of The Blueprint 3, also substantially better than a low-300,000s consensus.
