Who took home the trophies at the American Music Awards (AMAs) this year?
Unsurprisingly, the winners were mostly big-name, mainstream acts, including Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, and Green Day. That was also true for the performances, a huge part of the evening.
Perhaps the biggest – and most predictable – winner was Taylor Swift, who remotely accepted her Artist of the Year award from London. That was just one of five prizes, a smart decision by the AMAs following the infamous Kanye blowup at the VMAs.
Next in line was Michael Jackson, who was posthumously awarded four prizes, including Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. Jay-Z grabbed the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist trophy, as well as Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album accolades for The Blueprint 3. Green Day accepted a Favorite Alternative Rock Artist nod.
Performances are a huge draw at this event, and the lineup included Janet Jackson (a medley of Michael Jackson hits), Jennifer Lopez (an unfortunate fall), Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, and Adam Lambert (a racy finale).
