Well, the Chinese Ministry of Culture has just published 100 songs that are now banned for distribution, with lots of Gaga and Perry throughout. Digital distributors in China must now remove the specified tracks or face penalties – while illegal channels are probably less burdened. The latest list also includes tracks by Simple Plan, Beyonce, Take That, Owl City (eh?) and the Backstreet Boys, among others.
And, that is on top of earlier ban lists (of which we don’t have access… yet, anyone?)
The reasons for the latest playlist are vague, though they include improper registration and the threat of [translated] “disrupting the online music marketplace and engandering the security of Chinese culture.”
