Top digital executive Ted Mico is now out at Universal Music Group, according to details confirmed Thursday evening by Digital Music News.
Mico held Executive VP stripes at Interscope Geffen A&M for nearly five years, though sources indicated that the exit was part of an ongoing reorganization and pare-down.
In a farewell email, Mico pointed to a formal departure at the end of the month, and a new beginning at MixedMediaWorks. “As most of you know at the end of this month my long period of notice is over and, after almost five years as EVP, I’ll be leaving Interscope/Geffen/A&M for MixedMediaWorks LLC,” Mico sent.
And what is this venture exactly? Mico has yet to respond to an evening inquiry (we haven’t given him much time), though he did offer more details on MixedMediaWorks in his farewell note. The startup will be a “media solutions company” with a focus on investments and consulting for “brands, technology, and media companies,” both new and established. It appears that MixedMedia will be based in Los Angeles, where Mico has been anchored.
The exit puts Mico on a long list of departed ‘digital guys,’ across all four major labels. Most recently, that includes names like Jeremy Welt, Michael Nash, and Ethan Kaplan of Warner Music Group.
More details ahead.
