David Bowie’s cult classic gets another theater whirl.
Aside from being a wildly popular and leading figure in the music industry for more than five decades, David Bowie also graced the silver screen. The music and entertainment world mourned his passing in 2016, but his legacy continues to be celebrated.

Aside from rocking the stage, Bowie was quite the multimedia entertainer. Leading roles in films include The Man Who Fell to Earth, Just a Gigolo, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, The Hunger, The Linguini Incident, and the aforementioned Labyrinth.
Bowie didn’t mind appearing in supporting roles or cameo. And fun fact: his acting career predates his commercial breakthrough as a musician.
Bowie studied avant-garde theatre and mime under Lindsay Kemp. He also graced the stage with a variety of roles showcasing his acting talents.
David Bowie’s Labyrinth is now returning to theaters in the U.S. after more than 30 years
This was easily one of Bowie’s greatest films — and yes, it was ultimately his film. Released in 1986, the British-American was a dark fantasy adventure film mixed with musical. Jareth, the Goblin King, was played by David. Director Jim Henson’s Creature Shop produced the puppets which played significant roles in the film.
Accordingly, the movie didn’t do well at the box office. But it did gain a large cult following.
“It’s a film with great appeal to a huge audience — and also a cinematic experience that can be enjoyed over and over, always revealing more surprises,” said Tom Lucas, Fathom Events’ vice president of studio relations. “We couldn’t be happier to share it with moviegoers again.”
Of course this all pales in comparison to Bowie’s more celebrated musical career. The English singer, songwriter, and actor is one of the world’s best-selling musical artists. Though, the holistic Bowie fan can never separate the two.
