AWAL announced today that it has inked a worldwide deal with singer-songwriter Kevin Garett.
AWAL is Kobalt Music’s label services, distribution, and marketing division, and Garett will receive a wide variety of services. Global marketing, distribution, licensing campaign coordination, and more are part of the global deal.
Garrett’s debut EP Mellow Drama, released in 2015, received heavy praise from the likes of Sam Smith and Katy Perry. The songwriter received a Grammy in 2016 for his work on co-writing and producing Beyoncé’s “Pray You Catch Me.”
Garrett has performed on stage at festivals with Bonnaroo, Made in America, Electric Forest, Montreal Jazz, and WayHome. He continues to find his music at the top of Spotify’s charts.
In 2017, he released his False Hope album, which you can listen to below on Spotify.
Garrett is signed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. He says he excited to be joining the AWAL family as an independent artist.
“Being an independent artist has given me a lot of creative freedom and a perspective that really aligns with AWAL’s mission. I couldn’t be happier and more grateful to partner with them.”
And a fun fact: ‘AWAL’ stands for ‘Artists Without a Label,’ which is obviously a nice selling point for artists like Garrett.
The False Hope tour was Garett’s first solo headlining tour and has been met with rave reviews from fans. In sharing the news with his fans on Twitter, he added, “Thank you @AWAL how cool now we can all be sad together.”
