SoundCloud announced a new software integration with Virtual DJ and teased several more launches to come.
The new integration enables DJs to stream and mix SoundCloud’s entire catalog of tracks instantly. The integration means that creators can build mixes in Virtual DJ with just a SoundCloud Go+ premium subscription.
Here’s how to enable SoundCloud integration with Virtual DJ:
- Download and log into Virtual DJ 8 online
- Enable SoundCloud within Virtual DJ 8
- Login using a SoundCloud Go+ premium subscription
- Restart Virtual DJ 8 to see SoundCloud info
- Supports playlists, searching, mixing and streaming live
This new service is a way to make SoundCloud’s premium subscription service more attractive to its DJ community. The service works with the baseline SoundCloud Go+ subscription, but SoundCloud is offering a bundled deal for creators.
Any SoundCloud Pro Unlimited subscription can add a Go+ subscription for only $4.99 a month. The bundled price of SoundCloud Pro Unlimited and Go+ Premium is $16.99 together.
Back in December, SoundCloud rolled out support for Serato DJ as its first DJ software integration. Virtual DJ joins the list today, and SoundCloud says more launches will follow later this year.
DEX3, Native Instruments, Mixvibes, and Hercules launches will arrive later this year.
SoundCloud’s renewed focus on its DJ community is one way the streaming service is trying to build subscription numbers. The service was headed for bankruptcy in late 2017 before an emergency cash injection arrived from angel investors. Kerry Trainor replaced SoundCloud founder Alex Ljung as CEO as part of that transition.
Among various changes, Trainor increased SoundCloud’s focus on creating integrations with most popular DJ software. Trainor made clear that he believed “streaming workflows are the future.”
“SoundCloud is committed to empowering creators with the best tools and resources to grow their careers,” Trainor said when SoundCloud debuted its integration with Serato DJ in December of last year.
