Paul McCartney has teamed with Netflix to produce and contribute to an animated film. The feature-length film is an adaptation of a children’s book McCartney wrote.

The book was initially published in 2005, written by Paul McCartney with Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh contributing. The book tells the story of a young squirrel named Wirral who finds himself in a gang of rebels living high in the clouds.

McCartney will produce and contribute songs to the feature. Timothy Reckart is directing it, and Jon Croker wrote the screenplay. McCartney said he couldn’t imagine a better partner to release the film than Netflix.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Netflix. They complement what is already a fantastic team with Gaumont, and we can think of no one better to be working with to bring our film to a global audience.

I’ve always loved animated films, and this is a hugely important passion project for me. I can’t wait for the world to see it.”

Other producers for ‘High in the Clouds’ include Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne, Sidonie Dumas, Christophe Riandee, Nicolas Atlan, and Terry Kalagian.

As alluded to above, Gaumont Film Company will be handling the film adaptation. The project was first reported back in 2013, and two years later, McCartney revealed that he had written at least seven original songs. At least one of those songs features Lady Gaga. It’s unclear if the referenced songs are the original songs that will appear in the film.

Last month, Paul McCartney released two new songs, including “Home Tonight” and “In A Hurry.” Both songs were recorded during his Egypt Station sessions and released for Record Store Day Black Friday this year.

There is no release date for ‘High in the Clouds’ just yet. However, you can probably expect to see it sometime in 2020.
