Gunna will perform live for the first time in two years since being released from jail in a RICO case. Here’s the latest.
Gunna is set to perform this September 9 at New York’s Barclays Center for a show called “The Gift.” He’ll follow that up with another show at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on September 28 entitled “The Curse.” Tickets for both shows will go on sale on July 21, with Citi card members getting preferred access on July 18. Artist Fan Club and Spotify Fan First pre-sales will begin on July 19. Gunna will also donate $1 from every ticket sold to the Goodr Foundation, an organization for hunger relief.
The live shows will support Gunna’s latest album, a Gift & a Curse, which debuted on June 16. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart saw 85,000 EAUs earned in the U.S., according to Luminate data.
That’s about 112.6 million on-demand streams of the albums songs, and about 1,000 physical album units. It also marks the fourth Gunna album to debut at the #1 spot—Drip or Drown 2 (2019), Wunna (2020), DS4Ever (2022) were all chart toppers when they dropped, too.
The song “Fukumean” debuted at the highest spot, hitting #8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the week of its release. Gunna’s album managed to edge out Taylor Swift (61K), but could edge past Morgan Wallen (110K) or K-pop act ATEEZ (101K). Gunna has been quiet on social media since his arrest in the YSL RICO case. The rapper entered a plea deal in December 2022 for release, while Young Thug remains behind bars after being denied bond several times.
Gunna raps about some of these topics in the 15 track album, mentioning his relationship with Young Thug, snitching allegations, addiction, his family, and how he dealt with his time while in jail.
