Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’ surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify just after she became the first female artist on the platform to reach 100 million monthly listeners — behind only The Weeknd.

Swifties have made it a lovely summer for their favorite popstar, Taylor Swift, whose hit “Cruel Summer” from her 2019 album “Lover” surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify over the weekend. The song has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity from its inclusion on Swift’s Eras Tour setlist.

“It’s been no cruel summer for @taylorswift13 this year,” wrote Spotify on Twitter. “Congratulations on another track in the #BillionsClub.”

The song joins Swift’s “Anti-Hero” from her album “Midnights” on Spotify’s one-billion-stream Billions Club playlist, which features nearly 470 songs.

Swift took to her Instagram Story to show some love to her fans for her latest achievement, writing, “Summer just got a BILLION TIMES CRUELER. Love you all so much for this.”

The news comes on the heels just last week of Swift breaking another record as her presale tickets for the recently announced concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” raked in $26 million.

That’s a new single-day record for the most advance-ticket sales revenue for AMC Theatres. Swift recorded the film version of the concert in August and, in usual Taylor Swift fashion, kept it a secret until her surprise announcement for presale tickets revealed its existence to the public.

Last week, Taylor Swift also became the first female artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners, placing her behind only The Weeknd. And the 33-year-old superstar shows no signs of stopping.

She recently announced the release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” slated for late October, just after her re-recorded “Speak Now” broke Spotify’s single-day listenership record in July. With this many firsts for Swift, and undoubtedly more on the way, it will be interesting to see if (or when) she can de-throne The Weeknd for the most monthly listeners on Spotify.
