Taylor Swift makes another sweep of music streaming record-breaking, surpassing Spotify’s one-week streaming record, while similar records from Apple Music and Amazon Music trickle in.’

Taylor Swift knows all too well how to break records, and she’s already broken several more with her latest release, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) and its 31-track Anthology. The album she said she felt compelled to make immediately upon submitting her previous album, Midnights, to her label in 2022, TTPD is in many ways a return to form for Swift — autobiographical waxings about doomed but idealized romance. Here’s a look at the records the album has broken thus far.

Before the album was even released, its countdown page on Spotify broke the streaming service’s record for the most pre-saves in history. The countdown launched two weeks ahead of the album’s release date, and the hype was further increased by Spotify continuously updating the page with links to merch and cryptic clues from Swift herself.

The Tortured Poets Department not only became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day less than 12 hours after its release, but it became the first album on the platform to accrue over 300 million streams in a single day. Beyonce held the previous single-day record with her latest album, Cowboy Carter.

Less than a week after its release, TTPD became the first album on Spotify to surpass one billion streams in a single week — the fastest album in history to achieve such a milestone. Further, the album’s lead single and opening track, “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, broke Spotify’s record for the most streams for one song in a single day.

Apple Music also announced that the album had broken its record for the biggest pop album of all time by first-day streams, and Amazon Music shared that it had become the most-streamed album globally in its first week on the platform, achieving the feat in only three days.

Additionally, The Tortured Poets Department saw 1.5 million in first-week sales, 700,000 of which were vinyl. The album broke Swift’s own record for the largest sales week for an album on vinyl in the modern era — that is, since Luminate began tracking that data in 1991. Her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version) held the previous record for most vinyl sold during its first week in 2023.
