With Katy Perry’s exit as a judge on American Idol, Luke Bryan shares several names that might replace her, including Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor.

After seven seasons as a judge on American Idol, Katy Perry bids her co-stars adieu as she focuses on her forthcoming sixth studio album, for which she recently announced her first single, dropping on July 11. But who will be next in line to replace her on the judge’s panel on American Idol? Fellow judge Luke Bryan is all too eager to name-drop her potential replacements.

“I’ve said several names. I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” the country star told Billboard. “It’s been interesting. It’s been something Disney has been really tightlipped about with me and Lionel [Richie] and Ryan [Seacrest]. We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide.”

Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie all joined American Idol in 2018 for its 16th season, when ABC rebooted the competition show after its run on Fox from 2002 to 2016. As for the stars namedropped by Bryan as potential replacements on the judge’s panel, Meghan Trainor has notably said that it would be her “dream job.”

“I have begged for this job,” said Trainor. “It’s my favorite show; I’ve watched it since I was a child. […] I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world who don’t really have the final say,” she admitted.

Meanwhile, Pink recently told Entertainment Tonight that being an American Idol judge wouldn’t be her first choice, and that she likes her day job. “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings.”

It’s unknown if Miley Cyrus would be interested in the job were it offered to her, but like Katy Perry, the “Flowers” singer is heavily focused on her music career. Perry has said that her music will be her primary focus now that she’s left American Idol, having recently revealed the title of her latest song, “Woman’s World,” which debuts on July 11.
