Schoolboy Q’s ‘Blue Lips Weekend’ tour quickly turns sour, with a cancellation in Toronto followed by yet another in Chicago.
Schoolboy Q can’t seem to catch a break between the cancellation of the Toronto stop on his 18-date Blue Lips Weekend Tour and postponing another date in Chicago. The Toronto cancellation, he asserts, was purposely nixed due to his allegiance to Kendrick Lamar and TDE in his ongoing public beef with Drake.
The TDE rapper has been working with Lamar for years, having appeared in the recent video for Kendrick’s wildly popular Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.” Notably, he also recently appeared as a special guest in Lamar’s Juneteenth concert, The Pop Out, headlined by “Ken & Friends.”
But Q was originally scheduled to perform in Drake’s hometown of Toronto on July 18 with a sold-out concert at the 2,553-capacity History Club — a venue which Drake co-owns and helped design. According to Q, the show was cancelled by Canadian law enforcement who “don’t want nobody from TDE performing.” The Toronto Police Department denies their involvement, telling Variety “the decision to cancel this event was made by the venue.”
Meanwhile, Drake was seemingly trolling Schoolboy Q after the Toronto show’s cancellation, uploading a selfie to his Instagram Story on the same day, sporting blue bedazzled boots, which fans clock as a possible reference to Q’s recent single “Blueslides.”
Whether Drake’s involvement in the cancellation is true, Schoolboy Q was hit with another bout of bad news when his concert in Chicago, initially set for Saturday, July 20, had to be postponed due to the numerous airlines affected by the CrowdStrike/Microsoft outage over the weekend.
“No plane in Cali could get us to Chicago in time, forced us to move it a couple days up,” wrote Devin Malik on Instagram, as he was supposed to be opening for Q in Chicago. “See y’all there.”
Frustrated by the setbacks, Q took to the former twitter to simply write, “BraH,” with a facepalming emoji. “Bro’s having the worst week,” fans lamented online. Some drove six hours or more to Chicago for the show, only to discover it was postponed, while other fans couldn’t even attend due to the airlines affected by the mass outage.
