Mariah Carey, OutKast, Phish, Bad Company, Billy Idol and more top the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination list.
The 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of nominees has been released, with 14 artists up for consideration. These include Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Soundgarden, The Black Crowes, Oasis, OutKast, Mariah Carey, Phish, and The White Stripes.
Of these, eight are first-time nominees: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, OutKast, and Phish. Interestingly, the list also contains two sets of brothers who have had both a very public falling out and recent reunion: Oasis and The Black Crowes.
Though each of the artists on the list has left a notable mark on music in their career, few have been as impactful as those of Mariah Carey or Chubby Checker. Checker’s recording of “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again” were among the major pillars of rock and roll in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Mariah Carey has had an impressive 19 hits reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Christmas staple, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” continues to create a buzz every holiday season.
This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be revealed in late April, as well as inductees entering the Hall in three committee categories. These are musical influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.
The induction ceremony will take place this fall in Los Angeles. Nominees will be voted by an array of over 1,200 artists, music industry professionals, and music historians. Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years ago to be eligible for induction.
The selection criteria include “an artist’s impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their career and body of work, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique.”
Last year’s inductees included Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, and Peter Frampton.
