Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of the rock band Boston since the 2007 passing of original singer Brad Delp, has died after a battle with brain cancer. He was 60.
Tommy DeCarlo, the lead singer of the rock band Boston since 2007, has passed away at age 60 following a brain cancer diagnosis back in September. His family confirmed the news in a Facebook post shared on Monday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9, 2026,” the statement begins. “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”
“During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another,” their statement continued. “Rest in peace, Dad.”
Following his diagnosis, DeCarlo’s loved ones set up a GoFundMe to cover the cost of his treatments. It had raised over $56,000 as of Monday. The GoFundMe revealed that DeCarlo had suffered a brain bleed back in September and underwent an emergency craniotomy, which revealed two melanoma masses on his brain, as well as another spot on his lungs.
“He amazed us by recovering from the surgery and beginning treatment, but before he could complete it, he had another brain bleed and was hospitalized from November 27 to December 27,” the GoFundMe page revealed.
On January 2, his family gave an update on his health and said he had returned home from the hospital shortly after Christmas. Their statement also revealed that he was due to begin treatment “to target the remaining cells in his brain.”
Tommy DeCarlo joined Boston after its original lead singer, Brad Delp, committed suicide in 2007. In 2021, DeCarlo released an audiobook, “Unlikely Rockstar: The Tommy DeCarlo Story,” which chronicled his life and his career with Boston.
Boston’s biggest hits include “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Don’t Look Back,” “Rock & Roll Band,” and “Amanda.” Current members include guitarist Gary Pihl, bassist Tracy Ferrie, drummer Jeff Neal, and vocalist Beth Cohen.
