Clear Channel Signs a Deal with Dualtone Music Group

Clearn Channel Media and Entertainment and Dualtone Music Group signed a royalty deal. Dualtone and its artists will now share revenue from Clear Channel’s broadcast and digital radio.

Nashville-based Dualtone specializes in roots rock and indie rock, currently supporting bands such as the Lumineers.

Clear Channel has several similar agreements with others, including Big Machine Label Group, Glassnote Entertainment Group, and, most recently, Fearless Records.

I’m really suprised Clear Channel even bothers with these tiny labels. With the exception of Big Machine, most of these labels have relatively little air play and therefore fairly little play on their web streams (the custom stations make up the minority of plays). It seems that it would be more expensive to create these deals and pay labels a percent of revenue they normally would never have received than it would be worth for a company bleeding considerable amounts of cash and a significant amount of debt.
