A new app for iOS called BandMate heralds itself as “A Personalized Music Events Calendar for the iPhone.” It basically helps users find live music events around their area made possible by an algorithmic determination technology and Last.fm-like encyclopedic knowledge of artists.
Upon installing the app, BandMate will proceed to scan the device’s music library and compile a list of shows and artists tailored to your interests.
Although an application of this kind isn’t unique compared to similar features offered on other platforms, the launch of BandMate perhaps shows how popular this method of music discovery has become.
