Motley Crue biopic, The Dirt, coming this fall

Netflix’s long-awaited Mötley Crüe biopic, The Dirt, has just entered its pre-production stage.

The film is based on the 2001 book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.  That was a collaboration between Mötley Crüe band members and New York Times writer Neil Strauss.

Oh, and for the uninitiated: Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band which has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.  Known for their self-indulgent lifestyle and persona — not to mention risqué metal —  Mötley Crüe is one of the best-selling bands of all time.

Enter Colson Baker, known by his stage names MGK and Machine Gun Kelly.  MGK will portray Tommy Lee.

Machine Gun Kelly is a rapper and actor.  He started rapping when he was in high school — and the rest is history.  Fans started calling him Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) because of his rapid-fire lyrical flow.

Machine Gun quickly gained success in his 2006 ‘Stamp of Approval’ mixtape.  By 2011, he has signed a deal with Bad Boy and Interscope Records.  Lace Up, his debut album, was positively reviewed by critics.

Machine Gun Kelly is not a stranger to the movie industry.  He has appeared in various films including Beyond the Lights, Roadies, not to mention lead roles in Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk 2, Viral, and Nerve.

When it revealed that he was going to play Tommy Lee, Machine Gun Kelly said: “It’s finally announced. Excuse me for being crass but, holy fucking shit!”

English actor Douglas Booth will play Nikki Sixx.  According to the Hollywood reporter, talks are underway with Netflix for the casting of the two other band members, namely: Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars and Daniel Webber portraying Vince Neil.  The band members are co-producers of the film.

Jeff Tremaine is going to direct the film.  The script is by Rich Wilkes, Tom Kapinos, and Amanda Adelson.  Filming starts in February.

So watch out for The Dirt!  Fans of Mötley Crüe are eagerly waiting for more details — and we have a feeling this is gonna be good.

SEVERELY overrated band. GnR, Van Halen were the only decent LA rock bands and the IQ level of it all was a bit sad. Before that, you had the Doors, an actually artistic band. Shlockley Crude were part of the reason Grunge happened – just a barf load of posing. Tommy Lee is a good drummer, though. Has anyone heard this MGKs music? Peeyooska!
