Brothers Who Received $3,500 to Fake an Attack Against Jussie Smollett Express ‘Tremendous Regret’

Empire star Jussie Smollett concocted a ruse of sickening proportions — but the fallout is just getting started.

Somehow, Smollett still claims he was accosted by Trump supporters who beat him up, doused him with bleach, and threw a noose around his neck.  To make his story even more unbelievable, Smollett claimed it happened in the middle of the night when it was twenty degrees below zero.

Now, two Nigerian co-conspirators are apologizing through their attorney.  The pair ended up getting arrested as suspects, and both admitted to police that they were paid by Smollett to stage this attack.

“They understand how it has impacted people across the nation, particularly minority communities and especially those who have been victims of hate crimes themselves,” remarked Gloria Schmidt, an attorney for the brothers.

The motive in the case seems to be money.  Smollett apparently wanted to hike his profile to receive more money, while the Nigerian brothers agreed to participate for a mere $3,500.

Now, both brothers have given full confessions to the police, and both have stated that they were paid thousands of dollars to stage the attack.  Both were spotted on multiple different cameras, including footage showing the brothers buying the gear needed for the fake attack and approaching Jussie on the street.

This story is extremely alarming, but thankfully the fallout has been tame.  The fake hate crime could have sparked a wave of racial violence in the U.S.  And it now appears that Smollet was willing to testify against the suspects in the case, until he realized that Chicago Police had apprehended his paid co-conspirators.

The takeaway is fairly sickening.  In a desperate search for notoriety and money, Smollet was willing to incriminate entirely innocent people.  And worsen an already stratified racial and political climate in the United States.

Separately, Chicago police have stated that Jussie will be held accountable for his actions, and the actor looks likely to receive a felony count of falsifying a police report.  Less serious disorderly conduct charges are also possible.

The two Nigerian brothers were obviously central to the hoax, but won’t receive charges as they provided evidence against Jussie.
