Hip-hop superstar Drake will soon have his own marijuana line, in partnership with pot producer Canopy Growth Corp.
The new venture will be fully licensed to grow marijuana. It will be called the More Life Growth Company and will be based in the rapper’s hometown of Toronto.
According to Canopy Growth, Drake’s branded cannabis products will focus on such things as “wellness, discovery and overall personal growth with the hope of facilitating connections and shared experiences across the globe.”
This is not the first time that Canopy Growth has created a celebrity brand of recreational marijuana. Previously, they partnered with actor Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg to launch something called Houseplant. The company is also developing a marijuana line with TV personality Martha Stewart.
Other stars have introduced their own cannabis products as well, such as Jay-Z, Snoop Dog, Melissa Etheridge and Whoopi Goldberg. Even some dead stars have been developing their own cannabis brands.
In conjunction with the announcement of the partnership, Drake issued a statement.
He said, “The opportunity to partner with a world-class company like Canopy Growth on a global scale is really exciting. The idea of being able to build something special in an industry that is ever-growing has been inspiring. More Life and More Blessing.”
Mark Zekulin, who is the CEO of Canopy Growth, also commented on the partnership. He said, “Drake’s perspective as a culture leader and entrepreneur combined with Canopy Growth’s breadth of cannabis knowledge will allow our new company to bring an unmatched cannabis experience to global markets.”
Recently, Canopy Growth received a $5 billion CAD investment. This came from both Corona and Constellation Brands, which is the producer of Mondavi Wines. Meanwhile, other brands like Gold Bee are focusing on the evolving CBD market.
Drake should also be well set up financially. He has sold more than 170 million records across the world, and the RIAA ranked him the world’s highest-certified digital singles artist. He has long engaged in entrepreneurial pursuits, such as his record label OVO Sound.
