Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald has filed a motion for sanctions against the attorney representing singer-songwriter Keshsa, insisting that he and his law firm should be found in contempt of court for committing perjury during a deposition.
The filing is the latest salvo in the long-running legal battle between Kesha and the producer. It started in 2014 when the singer sued Dr. Luke, claiming that he manipulated her career.
That same year, Dr. Luke sued Mark Geragos, who was Kesha’s attorney in the suit, for defamation. At the time, he said that Geragos posted tweets that implied that he had sexually assaulted Lady Gaga.
In his latest filing, Dr. Luke is accusing Geragos of giving false testimony about deleting emails relating to the case.
“Geragos falsely stated under oath at his Court-ordered deposition in this action that all but three documents which this Court had ordered the Geragos Parties to produce did not exist because they had been deleted,” the motion states. “Years after this deposition, the Geragos Parties have now produced dozens of these purportedly deleted and nonexistent documents to Plaintiffs in a separate litigation.”
Dr. Luke not only wants the court to hold Geragos and his law firm in contempt of court, but he also wants to sanction them and to refer them to the California bar for further disciplinary action. He is further requesting that the court order an independent forensic examination of electronically stored information at Geragos’ firm.
This is not the first time that Dr. Luke has asked the court to sanction Geragos. In 2017, he asked the court to sanction him because he was allegedly being unprofessional and uncooperative. While the court declined to sanction Geragos at the time, it did order him to attend a second deposition, in which they required him to be more forthcoming.
A representative for Geragos’ law firm says that Dr. Luke’s latest motion is not only “entirely without merit” but also “incoherent.”
