Rapper Lil Wayne was ‘cleared’ by federal authorities investigating a private jet that flew into Miami. Federal agents later found drugs and at least one firearm.
According to a report from the Miami Herald, Miami-Dade Police received a tip about weapons on the plane. They alerted federal authorities to the possibility of firearms to obtain a search warrant. During the search, investigators discovered cocaine and one gun.
The federal search included investigators from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The search was conducted late Monday evening, with some Miami-Dade officers taking part.
Lil Wayne’s attorney later said his client was ‘cleared’ to leave the scene. No immediate charges were filed in the case.
The private jet is a Gulfstream G-V that can hold up to 14 passengers and crew. The plane was flying from California with Weezy as one of the passengers. All of the passengers were required to wait at the airport while investigators searched the plane.
Lil Wayne later tweeted about the incident after it went viral, confirming he was cleared. “All goody! I think they thought I was talking abt a different ‘pack’ in my last tweet. But anyway GO PACK GO!!!,” the rapper tweeted.
A decade ago, Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in connection with his arrest in July 2007. Police found a .40 loaded semi-automatic gun on his tour bus in New York.
He made headlines in May when he refused to play the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival in Miami Gardens. After the rapper learned of the mandatory police check, he tweeted out to fans: “I’m sorry, but I won’t be performing. I do not and will not ever settle for being policed to do my job and give you guys a great show.”
The rapper used to live in a large mansion in Miami Beach but sold it after he was the target of a hoax story.
