Pop superstar Mariah Carey has reached a milestone no other artist can claim: she has had a Billboard No. 1 song in four separate decades.

Carey also scored the very first Hot 100 No. 1 song of the 2020s. Though it is not for a new song. Instead, it is for her holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which came out in 1994 but is still popular with audiences today.

All together, the singer has collected No. 1 hits in the following decades: the 1990s, the 2000s, the 2010s and the 2020s. Those who have No. 1 hits in three different decades include:

  • Stevie Wonder
  • Elton John
  • Madonna
  • Usher

The Billboard Hot 100 chart includes not only sales but also streams. Many believe that it was the latter during the Christmas holiday that drove the song back to the top of the charts. Billboard has said that the song is one of the few that has ever had at least 72 million streams in a one-week period.

But regardless of how the song got there, it is still an incredible feat for a 25-year-old tune, especially considering how all members of the important 16-24 demographic were born after the song was recorded.

Helping push the song to the top was a new music video for it, which was released in December.

Carey celebrated her feat by retweeting Billboard’s official announcement of it along with the following statement:

“Yaaaaaaaaay!!! WE. DID. IT. But… what’s a decade?”

This is not the first world record that Carey has accomplished of late. In November of last year, she scored her third Guinness World Record, and like with her current feat, it was related to “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” She won it for the Highest-Charting Holiday (Christmas/New Year) Song on the US Hot 100 by a Solo Artist. Previously, she won Guinness awards for the Most Streamed Track on Spotify in 24 Hours (Female) and for the Most Weeks in the UK Singles Top 10 Chart for a Christmas Song.
