YouTube announced that, in celebration of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’s 20th anniversary, they were producing a feature-length documentary about the festival.

The film is entitled “Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert” and will premiere on the platform March 31 of this year. It will feature not only performances at the festival but also behind-the-scene stories from it as well as interviews. It will also give viewers a rare look at the festival’s beginning.

Chris Perkel is both directing and producing the film. Serving as executive producers are Raymond Leon Roker and Paul Tollett.

Overseeing the film for YouTube will be Susanne Daniels, who is global head of original content for the company. Also involved are Alex Piper, who is the head of unscripted for YouTube Originals, and Margaret Burris, who is a development lead for YouTube Originals.

The film is another in a line of recent music-oriented documentaries at YouTube. Others include:

  • Taylor Swift – Lover’s Lounge (Live)
  • Justin Bieber: Seasons

Recently, the festival announced its 2020 lineup. It also announced that YouTube once again will exclusively live stream the event on both weekends. This is the tenth year in a row that it has done this.

YouTube is further the official playlist partner of the festival.

Those who subscribe to YouTube Premium will receive various perks relating to the festival. This includes access to a members-only allocation of passes. As Weekend 1 passes for the festival are already sold out, this is one of the few places that fans can still purchase them.

Premium users will also get to watch the film ad-free and will have access to exclusive content.
