Kanye West dropped a surprise 5-track record on Christmas called Emmanuel.
The album is described as “ancient and Latin inspired new music.” West both wrote and executive produced the new album, which is performed by West’s Sunday Service Choir. West says the new album is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
West’s first public Sunday Service performance happened at Coachella on Easter Sunday, 2019. Since then, he’s been hosting Sunday Service events featuring his music. Emmanuel means ‘God is with us,’ and it’s a name that is referenced in the Bible.
Kanye West’s new 12-minute Christmas album is available on both Spotify and Apple Music.

Despite dropping the five-track EP, West’s Twitter account remains silent. He hasn’t tweeted or posted on social media since the November 3rd election. His last tweet is a picture of himself as a silhouette behind the electoral map with the caption, KANYE 2024.
West drew national attention earlier this year after announcing on July 4th that he would run for President. At first, many people saw the West Presidential campaign as a joke, or a way to promote his rumored new album, Donda. However, Kanye began receiving help from former Republican strategists to help him register in several states.
West’s campaign was too late to register in several others, so he only appeared on 12 states’ ballots. He led an active write-in campaign on social media, encouraging fans to vote for him. In the end, Kanye received less than 0.04% of votes nationally.
Kanye spent around $14.4 million to encourage 66,636 people to vote for him. Perhaps he should stick to making music and dropping surprise albums?
The Kanye West Emmanuel Christmas album continues his Christian-themed music kick.
The recently-released Jesus is Born also featured performances by the Sunday Service Group. Jesus is King preceded that album and debuted in October of 2019.
News also dropped that Kanye West wanted to do a collaboration with Nintendo, before they turned him down. Former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime shared the story on a recent podcast.
“Part of it was talking about what he was up to,” Fils-Aime says on his Talking Games With Reggie and Harold podcast. “He was experimenting with a piece of video game content. He wanted reactions to it. [Kanye] comes out and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’ We had so many different projects at Nintendo going on, the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there, and so I had to find a way to politely decline this opportunity to work with him.”
