Chicago’s Ravinia Festival has cancelled several upcoming shows following the mass shooting.

“In light of Monday’s tragedy, and out of deep respect for our community, Ravinia announces the cancellation or postponement of all concerts and events through Sunday, July 10,” the organization said in a statement.

“The decision was made after careful consideration and in close consulation with many stakeholders, including neighbors, public officials, artists, and patrons,” the statement continues. “Our shared hope is that the reduced activity – both within the park and in the neighborhoods surrounding Ravinia – will give the community the space and quiet to reflect and heal.”

The mass shooting happened during a July 4 parade celebration. a 21 year old male disguised himself in women’s clothing and hid on a nearby rooftop, opening fire on the people below him. He killed seven people and wounded 30 more as the community gathered to celebrate the nation’s birthday. The man was taken into custody later that night after fleeing the scene.
