The Glastonbury 2023 lineup has been revealed, though organizers lament the lack of female acts this year.
Glastonbury co-organizer Emily Eavis says the festival struggled with finding females performers this year. Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, and Guns N’ Roses are slated to headline this year. Guns N’ Roses replace a previously confirmed female headliner who changed her touring plans, according to Eavis. Many fans were hoping Taylor Swift would appear this year, but her U.S. leg of the Eras tour will make that impossible.
Lizzo has joint headline billing for Guns N’ Roses, who added female keyboard player Melissa Reese in 2016. “They’ll be brilliant and provide something totally different to the rest of the headliners,” adds Eavis about the new lineup. 52% of the 54 names on the lineup announcement are male.
In October 2022, Glastonbury announced it would raise ticket prices by £55. “We put it up by the minimum we could,” says Eavis of the move. “In order to do the exact same show as last time, we would have had to put £100 on the ticket. That’s the amount that costs have gone up.” The festival costs £50 million to run, including its free tickets for kids and tote bags the festival offers to all attendees.
