Eminem publicly endorsed Joe Biden in Michigan with an ad featuring his hit, ‘Lose Yourself.’ It may have helped Biden clinch Michigan in an extremely tight race.
The campaign ad received millions of likes and retweets on social media. And as the election got underway on November 3rd, millions of votes came in for Biden — with Eminem’s legendary track potentially throwing things over the top. Donald Trump won the state in 2016 by flipping the northern state for the Republicans.
“I’d like to thank Eminem for allowing the Biden campaign to use ‘Lose Yourself'” one wrote, while another said, “Biden uses Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ track for his campaign ad, and now he’s just won Michigan. Must feel great.” As of Thursday morning, election results for the nation remain undetermined.
Trump has filed three lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia in a bid to stop counting votes. Biden insists the count should continue, adding, “no one’s going to take our democracy away from us — not now, not ever.” Eminem is a huge draw for many Michiganders who embrace the 8-Mile rapper as one of their own.
“After Eminem dropped that ad, you know Detroit was gonna make sure Michigan went to Biden,” someone else tweeted.
Eminem started his career pretty apolitical, but he spoke out against President Trump in 2017. “I get almost flustered thinking about him – that’s how angry he makes me,” the rapper told Vulture. “[He] makes my blood boil, I want our country to be great too, I want it to be the best it can be, but it’s not going to be that with him in charge,” the rapper continued.
Eminem said he initially thought Donald Trump might bring a fresh voice to US politics. He said his opinion changed after Trump’s campaign speech in which he referred to Mexican immigrants as criminals and rapists.
“From that point on, I knew it was going to be bad with him. What he’s doing putting people against each other is scary fucking shit. His election was such a disappointment to me about the state of this country,” Eminem continued. “The people that support him are the people he cares about the least, and they don’t even realize it. He’s got people brainwashed.”
Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ campaign ad may have helped energize some of those people in Detroit, including those that voted for Trump in 2016. While the election itself is undecided, Michigan is firmly in the Biden category. For now, it looks like the race may come down to Pennsylvania and Georgia.
