Aging rocker Ted Nugent took to Facebook to ask why there were no lockdowns for COVID 1-18.
Nugent raised the question in an interview he shared on his Facebook page. He also said he had no fear of the virus. The bizarre 12-minute rant posted to his Facebook page only served to amplify several conspiracies about the pandemic. The coronavirus has killed more than 500,000 people in the United States alone.
“I ain’t scared. I ain’t scared of nothing,” Nugent starts the video, ranting about songbirds. Around the 1:30-minute mark, he questions the decision to cancel live tours in 2021. “We are not waiting for any authorization from any bureaucratic entity to say, ‘you can go ahead and tour now.’ You know, this year’s tour is canceled again. Are you kidding me? The production companies won’t let us tour again this year.”
“Dirty bastards, lying scam, smoke and mirrors, COVID-19 freaks,” the rocker then rants in the live video. Around two minutes into the video, he then asks his viewers why there were no lockdowns for previous COVID viruses.
“You know, I guess I would ask you – because I’m addicted to truth, logic, and common sense,” Ted Nugent continues. “And my common-sense meter would demand the answer to why we weren’t shut down for COVID 1 through 18? COVID 1 through 18 didn’t shut anything down, but woah, COVID-19!”
The respiratory disease COVID-19 was named in February 2020 for the virus, SARS-CoV-2 and the year it was first reported – 2019. Nugent’s suggestion of 18 years of global scale coronavirus pandemic is the true misinformation.
In 2003, an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was caused by a coronavirus. But the disease did not spread widely in the U.S., though health officials warned of a potential outbreak. Another coronavirus outbreak in 2012 was the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) caused by the MERS-CoV. Only two people in the United States were ever infected with that variation.
Ted Nugent could answer his questions himself with basic information from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. It’s a shame that information is so readily available but ignored by so many in favor of projecting how they feel online.
Ted Nugent is a frequent Trump supporter and often played many of his rallies. The rocker moved from Michigan to Texas over 18 years ago. Since then, he’s continually commented on gun politics; now he’s adding COVID misinformation to the national zeitgeist.
