The Latest: Samsung’s Endorsement of Jay-Z’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail”

A couple weeks after the rumored $20 million deal between Samsung and Jay-Z, a Samsung commercial aired last night during the NBA Finals that also announced the rapper’s new LP, Magna Carta Holy Grail.

In addition to the dual product promotion, Samsung has purchased one million copies of the album to release 72 hours head of the official release date.

Magna Carta Holy Grail will be available for free download on July 4 to the first million Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S IV, and Galaxy Note II users.

Whether or not the pre-sale copies will factor into Nielsen SoundScan sales is unclear. If so, Magna Carta has already gone platinum.

I wonder who’s benefitting more from this deal: Jay Z or Samsung. Either way, it seems like it has created a huge buzz for both the album and the company.

Regardless of whether they count for Nielsen, the fact he Samsung bought 1M records is still Jay-Z selling a million records to someone. I don’t think Watch the Throne or Blueprint 3 got there so he’s already on top on the sales front.
