Grammy-nominated gospel singer Troy Sneed has passed away due to complications from COVID-19. He was 52 years old.
One of Sneed’s friends, as well as his publicist, confirmed the tragic news to reporters based out of Jacksonville, Florida, where Sneed resided. The talented artist left behind his wife of 27 years, Emily, and four children.
Debuting on the commercial music scene with 1999’s Call Jesus, Sneed would go on to release six subsequent studio albums, including 2011’s particularly successful My Heart Says Yes. Among Sneed’s especially popular and fan-favorite songs are “Lay It Down” and “Kept by His Grace.”
Additionally, Troy Sneed was nominated for a Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album Grammy Award in 2000, for his part in creating Youth for Christ’s Higher. Sneed and his wife also founded a record company, Emtro Gospel Music Group, which has released some of gospel music’s most noteworthy albums during the last two decades.
On social media, not a few fans offered kind words and celebrated Sneed’s life.
Gospel musician and pastor Hezekiah Walker tweeted: “I’m so sorry to hear of gospel artist Troy Sneed passing! You will be missed Troy RIH we love you.”
SiriusXM host Meta Washington wrote: “I regret to advise you of the passing of the Grammy award-winning [sic] gospel artist Troy Sneed who transitioned last night as a result of complications due to the COVID-19 virus. We send our heartfelt prayers and condolences to his family,” followed by a folded-hands emoji.
Lastly, gospel music mainstay Kurt Carr said: “The Gospel community has lost a superb talent in Troy Sneed. Keep his wife, family, friends, and everyone who was blessed by his music in prayer!”
COVID-19 has claimed several beloved artists and music-industry figures; Joe Diffie, Hal Willner, Adam Schlesinger, and Neil Lasher have succumbed to the disease.
